POSTPONED: The Salon for Thought and Discussion Series at the City Tavern

September 7 @ 6:30 pm

$100

Historically, taverns were more than places for food and drink — they were places where the community could gather to discuss news and issues of the day— in essence, intellectual salons.

In that spirit, The City Tavern Preservation Foundation is pleased to announce the Salon For Thought and Discussion Series at the City Tavern.

The salon will meet six times over the course of 2023, to discuss, debate and consider important, indeed vital and highly provocative issues of the day divided between foreign policy and the state of the nation over cocktails and dinner. Salon membership will be purposely limited to 40 participants to foster intimate discussion between participants, speakers and the moderator.  Speakers will be highly distinguished and well know personalities from both the private and public sectors.

The format for each session will be: Cocktails 6:30pm-7pm. Dinner with speaker and discussion 7pm-8:30pm with the bulk of the evening for left for discussion. The proposed agenda for  2023 series is:

:

Is America Broken?  If it is, is it fixable and how can that be done in a deeply divided nation?

:

China:  Threat, Foe, Frenemy or Misunderstood?

:

Russia:  A New Cold War or Possibly a Hot One?

:

Ukraine:  Frozen Conflict or Worse:  Can it be Resolved or is Escalation inevitable

:

The Constitution:  Is it still fit for purpose in a nation polarized over Guns, God, Gestation periods, Privacy and Legitimacy of Elections

:

       Six Big Ideas for Consideration:

-can the US government ever  work?

-can America’s societal divisions be healed?

-Is one solution a Chief Operating Officer for

Government needed in the 21st century?

-Requiring members of Congress to swear or affirm

each has read and understands all legislation before

               voting on it

-Will the $1.7 trillion directed at improving

infrastructure, chips, energy and environment work

and if not, can this be fixed?

Cost per session is $100 per person inclusive of food and beverage, tax and service charge, or $500 for subscription to all six meetings.

Dress is coat and tie
